Frequently Asked Questions

The KU Sovereign Futures Series is an ongoing initiative hosted by the Office of Sovereign Partnerships & Indigenous Initiatives that creates space for dialogue around Indigenous sovereignty, governance, and self-determination.

The series includes symposia, workshops, and public conversations that respond to Indigenous community priorities and evolving contexts.

The Indigenous Food Sovereignty Summit will focus on sharing food sovereignty initiatives and solutions that improve upon and strengthen the health and vibrance of tribal communities. We will convene tribal nations, leaders in the field, practitioners, students, and scholars to address policy, Indigenous food ways, challenges, and successes impacting Indigenous Food Sovereignty.

The symposium is intended for Indigenous leaders and community members, Tribal Nation staff, educators, students, researchers, farmers, and policy practitioners.

The program is designed to support both strategic decision-making and shared learning across sectors.

Open to all who have interest in supporting Indigenous food sovereignty initiatives.

The Indigenous Food Sovereignty Summit is not a traditional academic conference.

While research and scholarship are part of the conversation, the symposium emphasizes community-centered dialogue, applied governance questions, and relationship-building across Tribal, academic, and practitioner spaces.

This Summit will provide opportunities for experiential learning and resource engagement with a Resource and Demonstration Fair that will follow the lectures and panel presentations.

The Sovereign Futures Series is hosted at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.

Dates, location details, and program information will be shared as each year’s symposium approaches.
