Biography

Lori Hasselman, a citizen of the Shawnee Tribe and Delaware Tribe of Indians, serves her people through a commitment centered in Indigenous philosophies as the foundation of her work. As the Director of the Office of Sovereign Partnerships and Indigenous Initiatives (OSPII), Lori leads, strategizes, and enhances institutional development for and with tribal nations and Indigenous communities locally, regionally, and globally. Her work in OSPII provides a broad spectrum of engagement with Indigeneity for all Jayhawks toward a greater capacity of visibility and community at KU for students, faculty, and staff who are citizens of tribal nations.

Lori came to KU in October 2021 as the Assistant Director/Native American Student Success Coordinator in the newly formed Native American Initiatives (NAI) office coordinating the Haskell/KU Exchange Program.

Prior to KU, Lori worked as a Retention Specialist in the TRiO Student Support Services program at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS. While earning her graduate degree, she was an Academic Advisor Graduate Assistant in the KU Undergraduate Advising Center and worked with the Adidas Leadership Scholars. 

Lori was accepted into the 2023 KU Staff Fellow Program and was awarded KU Employee of the Month for March 2023. She has severed as President of KU Native Faculty and Staff Council and currently leads the KU Indigenous Student Organizations Collective. She is a member of the National Indian Education Association, the Association on American Indian Affairs, and the Kansas Association of Native American Education.
